Which Mercedes classes you can rent
Through Car-Rentals.ro you can book Mercedes-Benz classes online, from the A-Class up to the S-Class, as well as the GLA, GLC and GLE SUVs. All of them are automatic and seat 5. You can collect them in Bucharest, at the city office or at Otopeni and Băneasa airports, in Cluj-Napoca or in Timișoara, subject to availability on your dates.
- Cars: the A-Class is in the compact class, the C-Class and E-Class in the premium class and the S-Class in the luxury class.
- SUVs: the GLA is an intermediate SUV, the GLC a premium SUV, and the GLE and GLE Coupe are luxury SUVs. The GLC, GLE and GLE Coupe classes have all-wheel drive.
- For 8 people: the 8-seat Mercedes-Benz Vito van is presented on the 7 seater car rental in Romania page.
Below, under “The Mercedes classes”, each class is shown with a picture of its reference model, the number of seats and doors, the luggage capacity and the transmission.
Age and licence for a Mercedes
The Mercedes classes are subject to the same driver requirements as any other rental, plus the minimum age for the class, which the rental company sets.
- The minimum age for these classes is 21. The rental company sets it for each of the premium Mercedes-Benz classes on this page. The other driver requirements are explained in our guide to car rental requirements in Romania.
- Drivers aged up to 21 or over 65. If any driver on the booking, an additional driver included, falls within these age groups, the rental company does not reduce the liability through additional protection.
- An International Driving Permit is required in the cases listed in the rental company's conditions, for example when your licence was issued in a country that does not use the Latin alphabet. Which foreign licences Romanian law recognises is set out in article 83 of the Road Traffic Code (in Romanian).
The rental company's exact rules, and the driver ages and minimum licence period Car-Rentals.ro books for, are set out below, under “What the rental company’s conditions say”.
Finding a Mercedes in the results
The search form has no field for the make. Choose your location and dates, the driver's age and how long the driver has held a licence, then search.
- The “Class” filter: “Premium” and “Luxury” bring up the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, GLE and GLE Coupe. The A-Class is listed under “Compact” and the GLA under “Intermediate”.
- On a phone: the filters open from the “Filters” button, and the selection is confirmed with the button at the bottom of the screen.
- The model on the card starts with “Mercedes-Benz”, so the classes can be identified without any filter.
If no Mercedes class appears, try other dates or another pick-up point.
What “or similar” means for a Mercedes
Bookings are made for a class, not for a particular model. Under the class name, the card shows the class's reference model, for instance “Mercedes-Benz E Class or similar”. The car you receive belongs to the same class, but it may be another model, with a different body style (a coupé instead of a saloon) or from another make: in the rental company's catalogue, some classes also include models from other makes.
- In the results, the line “Other models in this class” under the reference model shows, where there is one, which other models may be provided in the same class.
- A particular model cannot be booked. A preference can be stated in the “Observations” field at the “Your details” step: it is passed to the rental company with the booking, but does not bind it.
- If the class you booked can no longer be provided, the alternatives the rental company may offer are set out below, in its conditions.

Deposit and protection
The deposit and the excess are set for each car class and are shown before you send the booking: at the “Choose your protection” step, on the card of each protection level, and in the booking summary, under “Not part of the total”.
- The credit card. The deposit is blocked or charged on a credit card, and the rental company's conditions list the cards it does not accept for this purpose. Before you travel, check that the card's available limit covers the amount shown.
- The protection included. The rate includes damage protection (CDW) and theft protection (TP).
- SCDW and SCDW+ are optional and chosen while you book. Neither provides full cover: some damage, for example to the rims, the tyres or the underside of the car, remains your responsibility whatever the protection.
What each level covers, what always remains your responsibility and how long the deposit refund takes are set out below, in the rental company's conditions.
Before you set off
- Paved roads. All-wheel drive on a GLC or GLE does not change the rental company's rule: unpaved roads and roads closed to public traffic are not allowed, whatever protection you chose.
- Mileage. Short rentals have a daily kilometre limit under the conditions; the exact figures are set out below.
- Leaving Romania. You need the rental company's written consent, and the destination must be in the European Union, the European Economic Area or a country it has expressly approved. Cross-border travel cannot be booked online: request it in the “Observations” field when you book.
- Winter. The rules for roads covered with snow, ice or frost are set out in the winter driving in Romania guide.
Booking a Mercedes works like any other car hire on Car-Rentals.ro: the booking steps, the documents needed at pick-up and the payment methods are set out below.
How booking works
- Search. In the form at the top, choose the pick-up point, the dates and times, state the driver’s age and start the search.
- Choose a class. The results show the classes available for your dates, with the total price; you can filter them by transmission, vehicle type or number of seats. You book a category, not a model: the car in the picture is an example, which is why “or similar” appears next to the name.
- Choose protection and options. You add optional protection and extras when they are offered for the car you chose; the total is updated in the booking summary.
- Enter your details. Send the booking and receive the confirmation by e-mail; you can reopen it at any time on the Check reservation page. You pay at pick-up.
What you need at pick-up
The driver’s documents, the card for the deposit and the age the driver must have are set by the rental company of your booking: its rules are below, under “What the rental company’s conditions say”, each with the article of its conditions.
Payment and what is included
- Nothing is paid online: you pay the rental company at pick-up. The deposit amount is shown in your booking summary.
- You see the total price before you send the booking, with the mandatory fees included.
- What the rate includes and what you pay separately (protection, the mileage limit, fees) are set by the rental conditions of the company that hands you the car.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I book a specific Mercedes model?
No, bookings are made for a class. The model on the card is the class's reference model, hence “or similar”, and the car you receive may be another model of the same class, with a different body style or from another make. If you have a preference, you can state it in the “Observations” field when you book: it is passed to the rental company with your booking, but it does not bind the company.
How old do I have to be to rent a Mercedes?
The rental company requires a minimum age of 21 for the premium Mercedes-Benz classes on this page. When any driver on the booking is aged up to 21 or over 65, additional protection does not reduce the liability.
Why are there no Mercedes classes in my results?
The results include the classes available for the location, dates and drivers of your search. If no premium Mercedes-Benz class appears, try other dates or another pick-up point, and check the driver's age: the rental company requires a minimum age of 21 for these classes.
Are the Mercedes classes automatic?
Yes, every Mercedes class in the catalogue has an automatic transmission, and the transmission is also shown on each class's card. For other automatic cars, see automatic car rental in Romania.
How much is the deposit on a Mercedes, and which card do I need?
The deposit is set for each class, and its amount is shown while you book: for each protection level and in the booking summary, under “Not part of the total”. It is blocked or charged on a credit card. The cards the rental company accepts and the time the refund takes are set out on this page, under “What the rental company’s conditions say”.
Can I collect a Mercedes at the airport?
Yes, the Mercedes classes can also be searched at Otopeni, Băneasa, Cluj and Timișoara airports, where the car is handed over at the meeting point. The search results show which classes are available there on your dates.
Can I take a rented Mercedes abroad?
You need the rental company's written consent, and the destination must be in the European Union, the European Economic Area or a country the rental company has expressly approved. Cross-border travel cannot be booked online: you request it in the “Observations” field when you book, and the rental company decides. Its rules for travel abroad, the deposit included, are set out on this page, under “What the rental company’s conditions say”.
How much does it cost to rent a Mercedes?
The price is calculated for each class, according to the location, dates and driver of your search, so it cannot be quoted in advance. After searching, sort the results by “Total price: low to high” and compare the Mercedes classes that are available. The total shown before you send the booking includes the mandatory fees and is paid to the rental company at pick-up.
